BENGALURU: Amid the rising temperature, the city is facing a drinking water problem. Residents of apartments in Kengeri are not getting drinking water even after paying lakhs of rupees.
On Tuesday, the residents of a apartment complex expressed their outrage against the RWA members over the lack of water. In many areas, water is supplied once every three or four days and people are in distress.
As many as 2,800 families are struggling daily without water for five days in Provident Samvat apartments in Doddabele village of Kengeri Hobli. On Tuesday, all the apartment residents came together and lashed out at the apartment management and demanded that they provide water.
The water supply to this apartment has been interrupted for five days. Though the residents brought the issue to the attention of the management, it was of no use. Water has been fetched as far as from Yeshwantpur by paying double the amount. The residents are paying Rs 5,000 per tanker of water.
Residents are concerned that such being the situation at the start of summer, water scarcity may hit them harder in the coming months.
Public TV has conducted reality check on water scarcity in some parts of the city. People in many areas of Bengaluru are not getting water every day. Due to the lack of rain this year and the water in the borewells drying up, people are struggling to get drinking water.
In some areas of the city, not only family members, but also children are going around looking for drinking water. As soon as they come home from school, they stand in the queues in front of water taps or borewells.
In Okalipuram under Gandhinagar Assembly constituency, residents are spending sleepless nights collecting two to three pots of water. Children are on the streets with pots to collect water before going to school and go through the same routine after returning from school.
Water scarcity disturbed children’s tests and studies too. The residents in some areas are blaming the BBMP for not responding properly to their woes and said people are facing water problem since three months.
