BENGALURU: The government has reduced the time duration for writing the examination for PUC II students. The time allotted for students to write exams has been reduced by 15 minutes from this year. The new rule will be effective from the 2024-25 academic year.
The Karnataka Examinations Authority (KEA) has issued a circular in this regard. Model question papers have been published on the department’s web portal https://cetonline.karnataka.gov.in/kea/.
Earlier, students were given 3 hours and 15 minutes to write answers, with 3 hours for writing answers and 15 minutes to read the question paper. As per the new rule, 2 hours and 45 minutes will be given to write the answers and 15 minutes to read the question paper, thereby reducing the time by 15 minutes.
The board has given reasons for the time reduction. Earlier, a 100-mark question paper was given in 3 hours and 15 minutes, but now, the written exams are for 70/80 marks and the remaining marks are given for internal assessment. Hence, 15 minutes have been reduced to write answers, according to the department. Parents and education experts are questioning the decision of KEA, and has kicked up a debate.
