MANGALURU: After registering an FIR against BJP Byndoor MLA Dr Y Bharat Shetty for his comments on Congress leader Rahul Gandhi, the Kavoor police have issued a notice to him. Shetty has been asked to present himself for inquiry within three days of receiving the notice.

The FIR and notice follow a complaint lodged by local Congress corporator Anil Kumar Kavoor. The case was registered under Bharatiya Nyaya Samhita Sections 351(3) and 353.

Bharath Shetty had sparked a controversy saying that the Leader of the Opposition (LoP) in the Lok Sabha and Congress leader Rahul Gandhi should be ‘slapped’ for his alleged anti-Hindu remarks.

Addressing a protest march at Kavoor in Mangaluru on Monday, the BJP MLA said that the Congress leaders who call themselves Hindus ‘only talk about violence, hatred and lies’. “He (Rahul Gandhi) follows anti-Hindu policy. If you look at his statement, it is clear that he is a big madman. He should be slapped on the cheek inside the Parliament”, Shetty had said.

He further attacked Rahul Gandhi for holding a picture of the Hindu god Shiva, and said, “He calls Hindus violent. Madman does not know that if Lord Shiva opened his third eye, he (LoP) would turn into ashes”.

The BJP MLA alleged that Rahul Gandhi changed his stance based on the region he visits and claimed, “When he goes to Gujarat, Rahul Gandhi becomes an ardent devotee of Lord Shiva. When he goes to Tamil Nadu, he becomes an atheist, when he goes to Kerala, he becomes secular”.
