Kashmiri student allegedly ragged at Vijayapura’s Al Ameen medical college

VIJAYAPURA: A medical student hailing from Anantnag district in Jammu and Kashmir, who is pursuing his medical education at the Al Ameen Medical College here, was allegedly ragged by seniors after a dispute during a cricket match, on Tuesday evening.

The victim Hamid, a student of the 2022 batch, was allegedly ragged by students of the 2019 batch. Nasir Hussain, a friend of Hamid, posted on X detailing about the incident tagging Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Union Home Minister Amit Shah, Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Omar Abdullah, Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah and Deputy CM D K Shivakumar.

Two groups of students were playing cricket on the college campus on Tuesday evening and Hamid was the captain of the 2022 batch team. During the match a dispute arose, and later in the evening, the seniors allegedly ragged Hamid by making him to forcibly sing and dance. They also threatened him that he would remain in the college for four more years, it is said.

On Wednesday, the Vijayapura police visited the institution and conducted preliminary inquiries. Further investigation is under way.
