BENGALURU: The State Education Policy (SEP) report was submitted to Chief Minister Siddaramaiah by the committee chairman, Prof Sukhdev Thorat, at the CM’s home office, ‘Krishna’ on Friday evening. The report, which runs into 2,197 pages, has recommends a 2+8+4 system of education which includes two years of pre-primary education, eight years of primary education, and four years of secondary education.
The SEP report consists of three volumes: School education (580 pages), Higher education (455 pages), and professional education (approximately 450 pages). The report also includes 617 tables, 47 figures, 16 graphs, 8 photos and 619 pages of appendices.

The report has made several recommendations for school education, higher education, and professional education (vocational), including 26 recommendations for school education. For higher education, there are 51 recommendations while for professional education, there are 20 recommendations.
Regarding the medium of instruction, the committee has recommended a two-language approach, suggesting that education be imparted in either Kannada or English. It has also proposed making Kannada/mother tongue the medium of instruction up to Class 5 for all boards.
Additionally, the committee has recommended fixing the age for Class 1 admission at 6 years, with a provision for admission up to 5.9 years. The report outlines various measures to be taken in the three divisions of school education, higher education, and career education.
