BENGALURU: Several parts of the state are expected to witness rainfall over the week, according to the Indian Meteorological Department. A red alert has been sounded for the coastal areas while an orange alert has been issued for north- and south-interior Karnataka.
The monsoon has revived over the last 2-3 days in some parts of the state after a lull over the last week. For Monday and Tuesday, an orange alert has been sounded for Bagalkot, Belagavi, Dharwad, Haveri and Gadag districts in north-interior Karnataka and a yellow alert for the three following days. The other districts are expected to receive moderate rainfall.
In south-interior Karnataka, a red alert has been issued for Monday in Shivamogga, Hassan, Kodagu and Chikkamagalur while an orange alert has been sounded for Chamarajanagar, Mysuru, Mandya and Davanagere districts. Moderate rainfall is expected in the remaining districts.
“The coastal areas experienced heavy rainfall on Monday and other parts of south-interior Karnataka also experienced rain. A trough has formed in the east Arabian Sea combined with the westerly winds, will bring heavy rain to coastal districts and moderate rain to other parts. The wind speed will be about 40-50 kpmh and in the coastal areas, it will be about 35-45 kmph. Bengaluru will also receive good rainfall till June 27”, said C S Patil, a weather expert.
The state is expected to receive good rainfall in the last week of June and the first week of July, the weather department has predicted.
