BENGALURU: The Karnataka Media Academy has announced the annual awards for 2019-2022 for excellence in journalism, on Thursday. Five journalists from Public TV are among those who have been conferred the awards.
Public TV Editor-in-Chief Divakar C (2019) , Executive Editor Anand V (2020), Mysuru correspondent K P Nagaraj (2021) and Belagavi correspondent Dilip Kurandavade (2022) have won the annual awards.
Apart from this, Sharanu Hullur of Public TV Digital’s Entertainment section has won the ‘Aragini’ award, which is given to cinema journalists.
The list of recipients of the annual and endowment awards was announced after a meeting chaired by Academy chairman Sadashiva Shenoy.
In all, 124 journalists will be given the annual awards for four years while 21 journalists will get the endowment awards. The Lifetime Achievement Award carries a purse of Rs 50,000 while the annual award winners will get Rs 25,000 each and a plaque.
The endowment awards include the ‘Andolana award’ for best district newspaper, instituted by Andolana Publications, the ‘Abhimaani’ and ‘Aragini’ awards instituted by Abhimaani Publications, the Mysuru Diganta award instituted by Mysuru Diganta newspaper and the Dr B R Ambedkar Mookanayaka award instituted by journalist K Shivakumar. All carry a purse of Rs 10,000 each.
Chief Minister Basavaraj Bommai and his cabinet colleagues will present the awards to the awardees, according to an official statement from the Karnataka Media Academy.
