Karnataka government issues guidelines to schools for prevention of dengue spread

BENGALURU: Amidst the rise of dengue fever in the state, the government has issued an order for schools to take necessary precautions. Department of Public Education Commissioner Kaveri has issued guidelines to all schools in this regard and the circular has been given to all DDPIs, BEOs of the state to take action.

The major concerns include keeping the school premises clean, ensuring drinking water, clean kitchen, lunch plate and toilet.

The guidelines include:

1. Students should wear full-sleeve uniforms and clothes that cover their legs.

2. Apply mosquito repellent to exposed skin before coming to school.

3. Display of Do’s & Don’ts on dengue control neasures in school notice boards.

4. Keep water storage containers clean and covered and change the water at least once a week.

5. Ensure that rainwater does not collect in waste containers and dispose of waste quickly.

6. Ensure that rainwater flows smoothly from the rooftops of school buildings.

 

7. Educate students about dengue prevention and control during morning prayers.

8. Create awareness about dengue prevention and control among parents through parent-teacher meetings and WhatsApp groups.

9. Provide mosquito repellents to students in priority, using local resources and in collaboration with School Development Council and Monitoring Committee (SDMC).

10. Ensure that solid waste does not collect in vacant plots near schools and seek necessary assistance from panchayats/civic bodies if required.
