Karnataka CM, Congress, JD(S) leaders condole demise of PM’s mother

CM Bommai including other state leaders expressed condolence.

BENGALURU: Chief Minister Basavaraj Bommai and his cabinet colleagues have expressed condolences the death of Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s mother Heeraben Modi, on Friday.

The CM, speaking to the media persons, said, “Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s mother was suffering for the last few days and was hospitalised for treatment. This is sad. Even when Narendra Modi became Chief Minister and Prime Minister, he had great respect and love for his mother. He was blessed to receive her affection. I got a chance to see that her affection for Modi”.

“Modi spoke about his mother many times and said that she was simple and also special. This is the special relationship of a mother and son. Heeraben treated Modi as just a son even after he became Prime Minister of India. She filled him with ideals and patriotism. We can see those qualities in Modi. Whenever Modi met his mother, he would feed her and inquire about her health. The mother-child relationship is the heritage and culture of this country”.

“She was a karmayogi and so is Modi. He returned to work soon after performing funeral rites of his mother. This is his commitment to duty. May her soul rest in peace”, he added. He tweeted stating, “Saddened at the demise of Hon’ble PM @narendramodi’s mother Smt. Hiraben Modi. May her soul rest in peace. May God give the PM the strength to bear this huge loss…. Om Shanti…

To a question on Amit Shah’s schedule, CM Bommai  said, “There is no changes in his programme, schedule in the city and other districts. We have decided on reservation for Panchamasali Lingayats and Vokkaligas and the complete information will be released later. After the meeting with Amit Shah, we will have a meeting with senior leaders. The report of the Commission for Backward Classes and its implementation will be discussed and further action will be taken”.

State BJP president Nalin Kumar Kateel also tweeted expressing his sadness on Heeraben’s demise.

Karnataka Pradesh Congress Committee (KPCC) president D K Shivakumar too expressed condolences on Twitter. The loss of a parent is indescribable. My deepest condolences to PM @NarendraModi on the demise of his mother #HeerabenModi ji. I join the entire nation in offering prayers for the departed soul and offer condolences to the family & loved ones.

Speaking in Belagavi on Friday said, “A mother is a mother, everyone respects a mother. Hiraben gave birth to a leader. Let’s hope for the good of this nation and may her soul rest in pace.

Former Chief Minister H D Kumaraswamy said that though Modi was busy with his schedule, the manner in which he had shown is love and affection for his mother is commendable. “May God may give him the strength to bear the loss. Heeraben Modi lived for a 100 years. Let’s hope Modi gets back to work soon”, he added.
