BENGALURU: Deputy Speaker of the Karnataka Legislative Assembly, Anand Mamani died on Saturday night after battling ill health for more than a month at the city’s Manipal Hospital.

Anand Mamani (56) was being treated at Chennai Hospital for his liver infection in September and later he was transferred to Manipal Hospital on the advice of a medical expert for treatment.

CM Basavaraj Bommai expressed his condolences.

Chief Minister Basavaraj Bommai paid his last tribute at the hospital. “My beloved friend and Deputy Speaker Anand Mamani passed away. He was in ICU for more than two months, and he was suffering from a liver problem, which was cancerous, and the infection spread throughout his body. He entered politics at an early age. He was also associated various organisations. People loved his work in his constituency,” the CM said.

Anand Mamani was the son of former Deputy Speaker, Chandrashekhar Mamani and represented Saundatti-Yellamma Assembly constituency as MLA three times. He joined the BJP in 2008.

His mortal remains were brought to hometown on Sunday for the public to pay homage. The final rites were conducted with all government honours.
