Karnatak University withdraws controversial chapter in BA 1st semester syllabus

DHARWAD: The Karnatak University, Dharwad, has officially withdrawn a controversial chapter which was included in the syllabus for the first semester BA course. The university authorities on Friday issued a official notification in this regard.

The controversy revolves around an essay by Ramalingappa T Begur on celebrating nationalism, which was included in the Belagu-1 book as the fourth chapter. The university academic council, which discussed the issue at a meeting, decided to withdraw the chapter from the syllabus.

University registrar Channabasappa, who spoke about the controversy, said the decision to withdraw the chapter was taken based on the recommendation of a committee set up to look into the issue.
