RAMANAGARA: A noted Lingayat seer, Basavalinga Swami (46) of Kanchugal Bande Math near Solur in Magadi taluk, committed suicide by hanging himself late on Sunday night. The reason behind for taking the extreme step is yet to be ascertained.
Basavalinga Swamiji committed suicide by hanging, the reason is not yet known.Basavalinga Swami was one of the eight children of the couple Channamallaya and Puttagouramma. He studied in Bandemath till Class 8 and continued his education at Sri Siddaganga Math. He ascended the Peetha of Bande Math in 1997.
Since the day he took charge of the Math, Basavalinga Swami organised meals and Akshara Dasoha every day at the math. He worked for the comprehensive development of the math and the devotees throughout life. Basavalinga Swami recently celebrated his 25th year as head of the math.
The jurisdictional Kuduru police visited the spot.
