KALABURGI: The Kalaburgi police have arrested an ITI student on Wednesday, in connection with the rape and murder of a 15-year-old girl.
The minor girl was raped and murdered in a sugarcane field on the outskirts of Koralli village under Aland police limit in the district on Tuesday. The accused belongs to same village. The victim, who had gone to attend nature’s call, went missing on Tuesday and her body was found lying in the sugarcane field on Wednesday morning.
Kalaburagi SP Isha Pant told the media late on Wednesday evening, “The accused had seen the minor girl heading out of her house and followed her. He had noticed that there were no people around in that area. When she sensed that someone was following her, she tried to run, but he held her tightly from behind. We have recovered a glass and sandals at the spot. After raping the girl, he strangled her with a shawl and crushed her head with a stone. After committing the crime, he cleaned himself and the blood stains on his clothes in a canal nearby. The police dog squad led us to the spot”, she said.
Preliminary investigation had revealed that the youth was always alone and addicted to his mobile phone. “He always used to watch obscene videos on his phone. We have produced him before court and will file a chargesheet soon”, the SP said.
