KALABURAGI: Close on the heels of the controversy over a bus shelter in Mysuru, the colour of the paint on the walls of the Kalaburagi railway station is now in the centre of a controversy with Hindu groups demanding its change.

Police were deployed as Hindu groups staged protest.

After they staged a protest, the authorities quickly got into the act and changed the colour of the walls.  Hindu groups had objected to the green colour of the exterior walls saying that the railway station was made to look like a mosque. They also said that it hurts the sentiments of Hindus and demanded that it should be changed.

On Tuesday, some Hindu activists staged a protest in front of the railway station. “Railways comes under the central government. They should restore the original colour. We will give them 15 days time, otherwise we will paint the walls in saffron colour. They could have at least chosen the Tricolour”, said activists of the Hindu Jagruti Sene.

Hindu groups had objected to the green colour of the railway station exterior.

Amid police presence, the railway authorities got into the act and summoned a couple of painters to immediately change the colour of the walls. “The architect chose the colour. Renovation work is going on for the 15 days ahead the general manager’s inspection. Now it is being changed”, said station manager Satyanarayan Desai.
