KALABURAGI: Police shot at two ATM thieves in the leg after the duo tried to attack the police during their arrest. The two injured ATM robbers are Taslim and Sharif.

They were shot in the leg after they attempted to attack the police with knives during arrest. The duo had stolen Rs 18 lakh from an SBI ATM in Ramanagara Colony. Police sub-inspector Basavaraj and two other policemen were injured in the incident and were admitted to JIMS hospital.

The police had been tracking the accused after identifying their vehicle, a white Hyundai i20, which was seen passing by the ATM during the theft.

Police Commissioner Dr Sharanappa, briefed the media on the incident, and  said that the accused had been involved in several ATM robberies across different states, including Karnataka. “Taslim has eight cases against him, while Sharif has three cases registered against them. The gang had been targeting ATMs in various states, including Karnataka. The police took two of the accused into custody, while the others fled the scene. The injured accused were admitted to GIMS Trauma Care Centre”, he said.
