Kalaburagi jail searches: FIR registered against 7 inmates; ADGP pays visit

KALABURAGI: After several photos and video clips of prisoners living a luxurious life inside Kalaburagi Central Jail went viral, an FIR has been filed against seven inmates at the Farhatabad police station. On Tuesday, ADGP-Prisons Malini Krishnamurthy also visited the prison and said that a preliminary inquiry has been ordered.

On Monday, Kalaburagi police commissioner Dr Sharanappa had raided the jail and found the jail inmates having access to beedis, cigarettes, gutka, iron rods and two mobile phones. The banned substances were seized from the inmates and a case registered based on a complaint from Jail Chief Superintendent Dr Anitha R.

Speaking to media persons after visiting the Kalaburagi jail, ADGP Malini Krishnamurthy said, “If our officials are involved, action will be taken against them too. We have already provided a list of items that can be allowed inside teh jail. The officials have been asked to conduct more searches”.

Further, she said, “An FIR has been registered and an inquiry has been ordered. A committee has been formed along with the police commissioner, DCP and police superintendent to condut more searches. An SOP has also been given to the KSISF on conducting searches. All our staff will also be checked.
