BENGALURU: A huge iron grating, which has collapsed on the road connecting Sampangiramanagar and Shantinagar in the city is posing a danger to motorists and pedestrians. The drain has been left open for the last 15 days without being repaired. Even after two weeks, none of the Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike officials nor elected representatives have looked into the problem.
Locals pointed out that there is the danger of children or adults accidentally falling into the drain and questioned who would be responsible. Tapes are tied to barricades and cones as a precautionary measures, but one side is left open, they noted. Some of the other gratings along the road are also about to collapse as the concrete around them has come off, they added.
“It is the responsibility of officials and they should wake before anything untoward happens. This has happened due to poor quality of work. Potholes can be seen on every roads just after six months after they are relaid. We just want our locality to look neat and clean”, said a resident of the area.
Another local claimed, “There are three chambers on the Sampangiramanagar-Shantinagar road and the workers have not put the concrete mixture properly. The huge iron grating is just standing on the support of a single rod, but none of the officials have come here to check. There is a school nearby and small children cross this road. If anyone falls into the drain, who will take responsibility? Officials are not bothered about public safety and elected representatives visit the constituency only during election period”, he rued.
