BENGALURU: The ongoing conflict between Iran and Israel has disrupted supplies of Iranian goods to Karnataka, with both countries declaring a state of emergency and shutting down their air and naval bases.
This development has severely impacted the supply-chain of goods from Iran to Karnataka, particularly affecting traders in Bengaluru.
Iran is known for its high-quality fruit production and exports various products, including high-quality fruits, dried fruits and spices. The conflict has led to a shortage of these items in Bengaluru, causing prices to surge.
Imported products like dates, raisins, and pistachios, are in short supply, with prices skyrocketing. For example, the price of poppy seeds has reached Rs 2,500 per kilogram, and pine nuts have crossed Rs 10,000 per kg. The conflict has also halted the daily supply of Iranian apples to Bengaluru’s Electronics City, which typically receives 70-80 containers daily.
Traders are struggling, and consumers are expected to bear the brunt of the price increase with the conflict escalating by the day.
