BENGALURU: The daughter of an IPS officer and his son-in-law were arrested for smuggling gold into the country through the Delhi airport from abroad around 11 pm on Monday night.
The arrested individuals were found to be carrying 14.8 kg of gold jewellery and were caught by the Directorate of Revenue Intelligence (DRI) officials led by S Yadav, who are investigating the case further. It is alleged that she is an accused of smuggling gold and was caught for the fourth time.
According to sources, the IPS officer’s daughter, Ranya Rao, and her husband, Jatin Hukkeri, were involved in the gold smuggling racket. The DRI officials suspected that Ranya’s husband may have also been involved in the smuggling racket. They also detained two protocol officers who were holding two briefcases and were with Ranya.
The DRI officials produced her before a magistrate following a medical test and were remanded to judicial custody. The DRI officials are seeking further custody of Ranya for investigation. The case has taken a dramatic turn, with Ranya’s arrest sending shockwaves through the film industry. Ranya is a well-known actress in the Kannada film industry.
