Inmates of girls’ hostel complain they are not being given adequate food, officials respond

MYSURU: Students of Karnataka Kasturba Gandhi Girls’ hostel in H D Kote town have complained that they are not being provided adequate food. For the past 15 days, the hostel has not been serving adequate meals. The students complain that there is a shortage of food ingredients, and they are not getting adequate meal.

There are 65 inmates in the hostel, who are being provided with only 1 litre of milk to prepare tea. Only 5.5 kg of rice is provided for all students’ meals, and coffee and tea are also not being served properly, the inmates shared their grievances with the Public TV.

The warden responded to the allegations expressing helplessness, saying that she has to prepare meals with the ingredients provided by the contractor.

The contractor, who supplies food ingredients, has said that he has taken the tender at a lower rate and finds it difficult to supply quality food at that rate. His tender period has ended, and he has written to cancel his contract and is no longer connected with the hostel.

The hostel is run under the administration of the Taluk Education Officers. Following the report telecast on Public TV, Block Education Officer (BEO) K Kantharaju visited the Kasturba Girls’ Hostel in HD Kote town immediately and spoke to the students. The BEO heard their grievances, and took immediate action.

He also made arrangements for daily essentials and action has been taken to provide full meals right from noon.
