BENGALURU: In recent days, there have been many cases of women being harassed, teased, and miscreants misbehaving with them while walking in parks. To address this issue, a park in Bengaluru has introduced new rules to ensure the safety and security of women and senior citizens.
The park, located in Indiranagar, has banned jogging and has introduced a rule that walkers must move only in clockwise direction. Additionally, western clothes have also been banned. A signboard has been installed in the park mentioning the rules, which include ‘No Jogging’, ‘Walk in Clockwise Direction’, ‘No Gaming Activities’.
The reason for introducing these rules is that some men would walk in the opposite direction, making women feel uncomfortable. This has been a problem in the park, with some men intentionally walking in the opposite direction to harass and tease women.
The new rules have been implemented to prevent such incidents and ensure a safe and comfortable environment for women and senior citizens. The park has also banned gaming activities to prevent people from gathering and playing cards.
The decision to introduce these rules was taken after discussions between the BBMP and the Social Amenities Association of Indiranagar. Local residents have welcomed the new rules, saying the rules will make walking in the park a more pleasant and safe experience.
With the new rules in place, women and senior citizens can now walk in the park without hesitation or facing harassment. The rules are expected to improve the overall experience of visiting the park.
Kavitha, a visitor, while appreciating the new rule, said, “I will welcome the decision. The clockwise walking system is very safe for women. Western clothing has also been banned because all age groups of people come here and it may distract others. So it is better to come with a normal, decent dress”.
Vishwas Lad, another visitor, said, “This is the best system, which was implemented by the committee. All follow rules as per my knowledge. Children have a separate area to play. Jogging can hurt senior citizens while doing activities, so jogging is banned.”
