BENGALURU: With the Karnataka Legislative Assembly election coming up, buntings, hoardings, flexes and banners with the pictures of political leaders have sprung up across the city. Flexes and hoarding of any sort, be it political or related to movies, are banned in the city.

Recently, the Karnataka High Court directed the Bruhat Banagalore Mahanagara Palike (BBMP) to take steps to prevent putting up of illegal hoardings in the city. Despite the High Court order, the BBMP seems to have turned a blind eye to the huge banners and flexed put up all across the city in the name of carrying out development works, wishing leaders on their birthdays, and other occasions.

The high court had also said in its order that in case senior officers the BBMP and BDA find that there is dereliction of duty by their subordinate officers, necessary action should be initiated, but nothing seems to have been done so fare.

Hoardings of Congress MLA Krishnappa can be seen in many parts of the city and banners in the name of Priya Krishna and Minister Sommanna are also everywhere. Besides this, illegal banners can be seen in at Shivananda Circle, Seshadripuram and other places.

Citizens allege that the BBMP has turned a blind to these illegal activities which are spoiling the beauty of the city. Not only political party flexes, there is no provision to put of any sort advertisement banners, wishes, celebrations and so on.

A senior citizen said, “The reason for the rampant illegal flexes and hoardings spring up are our political representatives. We, the citizens, had selected them. Sadly, the BBMP is not taking any action against them”.
