Ignoring the rising water level, people perform death ceremonies at secluded places.

MANDYA: Despite the Srirangapatna taluk authorities imposing prohibitory order in a 1-km radius of Cauvery river banks, specially at places like Gosai Ghat, Sangam and Paschima Vahini, people continue to flout rules and perform the last rites of deceased kin at secluded places.

Risking their lives, people are entering the water, ignoring the strong current, to perform last rites.

The Srirangapatna police raided some of the places on Monday where death ceremonies were being conducted in violation of prohibitory orders.

On Monday, Srirangapatna Town police inspector Prakash and team conducted raids near Gosai Ghat and stopped the ceremonies being conducted at a farm where shelters had been put up.

 

People were asked to leave the premises.

People from Bengaluru and other places had come here to conduct ceremonies. Ignoring the dangers, the priests went ahead with the rituals until they were forcibly evicted the police.
