SUKMA (Chhattisgarh): Two jawans of the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) were killed on Sunday in an IED explosion which was planted by Naxalites between Silger and Tekulagudem, under the Jagargunda police station limits in Sukma district of Chhattisgarh.
The martyred security personnel were identified as Vishnu R (35), hailing from Thiruvananthapuram, Kerala, and Shailendra (29) who hailed from Kanpur, Uttar Pradesh. The security personnel were part of the Commando Battalion for Resolute Action (CoBRA) 201 battalion.
The CoBRA battalion is a specialised force established to undertake operations of guerrilla and jungle warfare, specifically tailored for addressing the Maoist insurgency.
According to information, the incident occurred at 3 pm on Sunday, when the jawans were on Road Opening Duty from Camp Silger (under Jagargunda police station area) to Camp Tekalgudem. The Improvised Explosive Device (IED) planted by Naxalites claimed their lives. The IED was planted by Naxalites on the way from Camp Silger to Tekalgudem to cause harm to the security forces.
Meanwhile, security forces recovered a huge cache of fake currency notes and equipment used to print them, all belonging to Naxalites in Chhattisgarh’s Sukma district, a senior police official said on Sunday. The recovery was made on Saturday evening on a forested hill near Korajguda village in the district when a joint team of security personnel from various forces was out on a search operation.
On June 17, four Naxals were killed and two others were arrested by the security forces in Jharkhand’s Chaibasa, the police said. The four Naxals killed included a zonal commander, a sub-zonal commander as well as an area commander. The two arrested Naxals also included an area commander. The police also recovered rifles of different calibre. (ANI)
