DAVANAGERE: Fish death was reported at a lake on the outskirts of Jagalur. While the reason for the fish deaths has not been established, it is suspected to be due to inflow of polluted water into the lake.
The lake is spread over 700 acres and with the good monsoon this year, the lake had a good quantity of water. It was part of a project to fill up 57 lakes and just when the lake was about to reach full level, it has witnessed fish deaths.
Many fish farmers who had taken the lake on tender are now worried. They said the fish harvest over the last few years was bad due to poor rains and just when they were expecting a good harvest, the massive fish death has been witnessed. They demanded that officials visit the lake and conduct a thorough investigation.
