HASSAN: Movement of trains was affected after massive boulders fell on the railway tracks at the mouth of a tunnel near Arebetta and Yedakumeri following incessant rainfall in the Western Ghats on Saturday.
The Bengaluru-Kannur Fast Express and Bengaluru-Murudeshwar train were stuck at the Sakleshpur railway station since Friday night and the railway authorities arranged for beverages and breakfast for the stranded passengers. Some of them chose to continue their travel by other vehicles.
The boulders fell on the tracks near the 74th and 75th km and the presence of mind of a loco pilot averted a disaster and the train was close to where the incident had occurred. The railway tracks were badly damaged and the railway authorities were working to restore the railway line by clearing the tracks.
