Hubballi police fire at three murder accused, on the lookout for five others

HUBBALLI: The Hubballi police opened fire at three murder accused when they tried to escape after injuring four police personnel in Hubballi on Tuesday. The accused had murdered on Akash Valmiki (24) on Monday night due to previous enmity.

Akash Valmiki was exiting the parking lot of the bar when he was attacked and killed.

Akash Valmiki was stabbed to death at the parking lot of Golden Heights Bar in Lingaraj Nagar near Unkal lake on Monday night. The police arrested Yellappa, Vinod and Abhishek in connection with the murder.

The killers were waiting for Akash to exit the parking lot and attacked him.

However, when the police approached them, the accused attacked Vidyanagar police sub-inspector Srimanth Hunasikatti, Kamaripet police sub-inspector Sunil and police personnel Muthu Lamani and Sharanagouda Lamani.

Following this, the police opened nine rounds of fire — four rounds in the air and five rounds at the accused — near the old railway quarters and arrested the accused. All the injured were shifted to the KIMS hospital.

Police Commissioner Shashikumar N visited the injured at the hospital and inqurired about their health. Speaking to the media later, he said, “Yesterday night, there was an incident in Vidyanagar police station limits wherein one person named Akash Valmiki was assaulted brutally by three people, as it is seen in the CCTV, using sharp weapons and the victim died on the spot. Based on information, we found three accused moving around the railway station”.

“When they were questioned about the other five accused who were involved in the incident, they told us they had a plan to meet at MT Mill. These 3 people were taken to that place where they tried to run away by assaulting police. Our 2 sub-inspectors, Sunil and Srimant have fired on the accused injuring 3 of them…In the process 2 of our sub-inspectors and 2 of our staff have also sustained some injuries”, he added.

The police commissioner said five other accused are absconding and expressed confidence about arresting them too at the earliest.
