HUBBALLI: The first additional district and sessions court here on Monday rejected the bail plea of Fayaz, the accused in the sensational Neha Hiremath murder case on the BVB College campus on April 18, 2024.

The sessions judge Pallavi B R, who heard the bail plea, had reserved her judgment for Monday. While Fayaz was produced before the court via video conference from the Dharwad central jail, the judge directed that the accused be present before the court personally on August 6 for the trial.

The bail plea was filed by Fayaz’s lawyer Z M Hattaraki of Belagavi while CID special public prosecutor Mahesh Vaidya and Raghavendra Muttagikar, representing Neha’s family, had filed objections to the bail.

Earlier in the day, Hindu groups, led by Pramod Mutalik of Sri Rama Sene, took out a protest march from the college to the court premises opposing bail to the accused. After the bail was rejected, Hindu groups and Neha’s family felicitated the SPP and the lawyer.

Speaking to media persons later, Neha’s father Niranjan Hiremath said it was a victory for all those who have been fighting to seek justice for Neha. “We had faith that we will get justice. The accused must be hanged to death. If he approaches the high court, we will file objections there too”, he said.
