Hubballi cop waves pistol while arresting theft accused in Vijayapura

VIJAYAPURA: In a dramatic scene, a police officer of the Hubballi Suburban police station waved a pistol while executing an arrest in a public place at Dr B R Ambedkar Circle here on Friday afternoon. The accused was bundled into a car and taken away even as a huge crowd had gathered there.

Avinash was trying to resist arrest while the women who were with him got into a scuffle with the plainclothes policemen.

Avinash Machchale, hailing from Kolhapur in Maharashtra, was accused of stealing copper wire from the Hubballi industrial area. On getting information that Avinash was with his family in Vijayapura, the Hubballi Suburban police arrived there in plainclothes and nabbed him.

Immediately, some women of Avinash’s family who were with him got into a scuffle with the police and soon, a crowd gathered there. When Avinash was resisting getting into the police vehicle and trying to escape, Hubballi Suburban Assistant Sub-Inspector Honnappanavar got out of the car waving a pistol to disperse the crowd.

The plainclothes policemen then took Avinash to the Gol Gumbaz police station and from there to Hubballi.
