BENGALURU: The Department of Food Safety and Quality has started checks for food quality at all hotels, restaurants, fastfood joints  and bars on the government’s instructions.

The food safety department has started the drive to check for quality, use of expired food items, not maintaining cleanliness, consumption of poisonous food and distribution of food prepared with adulterated ingredients.

Food quality has been a matter of concern in hotels, restaurants and eateries including popular outlets like The Rameswaram Cafe. After a video went viral on social media about unhygienic food, a decision was taken to close all such outlets which prepare substandard food. The government ordered testing of food at all types of eateries and is awaiting a report.
