BENGALURU: After cases of swine flu were reported in several districts across the state, the Health Department has directed hospitals to be on high alert and to set up labs to test for the diseases. Some cases of swine flu have already been detected in Kodagu district.
The Health Department has instructed hospitals to conduct H1N1 test for Influenza-like illness (ILI) and to arrange separate beds to treat swine flu patients.
What are the symptoms of swine flu?
- High fever and chills
- Cold and cough
- Body aches
- Diarrhea, nausea and vomiting
The following guidelines were released by the Health Department to prevent and control swine flu:
- In the event of influenza-like illness (ILI), all district and taluk hospitals to test for swine flu in both outpatients and inpatients
- All district and taluk hospitals should make arrangements for beds
- Intensive monitoring of patients based on symptoms of swine flu
- Places within 10 km radius of detected cases should be designated as alert zones.
- People should be cautious of the flu as it easily spreads through pigs, air and liquids
The Health Department has set up seven government and eight private labs to test for swine flu across the state and has warned people to be cautious of the spread of the virus.
