BENGALURU: A small flyover construction project in Bengaluru has been ongoing for five years with no end in sight. The project, which started in 2020, aimed to alleviate traffic congestion at Veerabhadra Nagar Junction on the Outer Ring Road in Hosakerehalli.
Despite being a small project, spanning 1.3 kilometers, the work remains incomplete and there’s no hint of seeing it finished this year.
The prolonged construction has exacerbated traffic woes in the area, making daily commutes a nightmare for locals. Bengaluru’s infrastructure projects often seem to lack deadlines, and there’s a lack of accountability.
The city’s roads are plagued by traffic congestion, potholes and ongoing construction projects, making it a challenging place to navigate. Delayed completion of infrastructure projects is now commonplace in Bengaluru, and it’s high time authorities take steps to address this problem, local residents say.
“The flyover was started with the aim of easing traffic. There is heavy traffic jam in the evening. It takes 30-45 minutes to reach a short distance. Of course, it’s a nightmare going on this road,” said a bike rider.
Ravikumar, another rider, said, “The flyover has been under construction for five years, but is not completed yet. People who are going to Girinagar suffer every day due to the delayed work. There are lots of potholes on the roads in the city and during the monsoon, it is like hell. Motorists must be very careful while driving because no one knows how pathetic the roads are. The authorities concerned should pay attention and finish work on the flyover at the earliest possible. It would be helpful for thousands of road users”.
