Honour killing victim Shalini,

MYSURU: In a startling revelation to the honour killing episode, it has now come to light that the victim Shalini had written a letter to the Periyapatna police blaming her parents an aunt and an uncle for her death, indicating that she may have suspected that she would be killed.

In the letter, Shalini, a resident of Kalgundi village in Periyapatna taluk, has stated that she may be kidnapped or other harm done to her. She also says that she was brought back home from the Bala Mandir on the assurance that she could lead her life as she wanted once she turned 18.

In the three-page letter, the girl says that her lover is not to be blamed for her death, but her parents, uncle and aunt. She also says she is a victim of caste discrimination. “Don’t punish anyone for my death, but summon my parents and counsel them. I am in love with a boy from another caste and my parents abused me in foul language for that and viciously attacked me”, she said.

“More than me, caste seems to be important for my parents, so let them treat caste itself as their daughter. Caste discrimination is a social evil which police officers like you should rid society of. If there is a next life, I would like to be born to someone like you. Please advise my younger brother to study well. The boy I loved will not forgive me, but please tell him to do so. I have written this letter on my own volition”, she added.

In an audio clip, she can also be heard warning her lover that her parents and relatives may try to fix him for her death.

The youth, Manjunath.

Meanwhile, the youth, Manjunath, said that Shalini had told him that her parents have given Rs 2 lakh as supari to eliminate him.

“Three false cases were registered against me. We were in love for the last four months and I had promised her that we would get married as soon as she turns 18. But just because I belong to another caste, her father did not agree. Now, there is a threat to my life too”, he said.
