Honour killing: Father kills married minor daughter for continuing affair with other man

KOLAR: In a case of honour killing that has come to light lately, a man killed his minor daughter for continuing her relationship with a man even after she was married off to another person. The victim has been identified as Architha and the accused is her father Ravi.

The incident took place in Musturu village of Mulbagal taluk of Kolar district. Ravi had set his daughter Architha on fire and killed her on his farm land.

Ravi had got his minor daughter married off to another man after he found his daughter having a love affair with a relative on May 21. He brought her back from his son-in-law’s house after the latter complained and then lodged a complaint at Nangali police station on October 17, 2023, alleging that she was missing.

The police intensified the investigation after they received an anonymous letter from the village which alleged that Ravi may have killed his daughter. The Nangali police have arrested the accused and started searching for the remains of the deceased at the place where he burnt her in Musturu village.

Early on Tuesday morning, the police and FSL team conducted a search and found the skull and bones of the girl. Ravi then admitted to having killed his daughter. The police have sent the samples to the forensic lab in Hyderabad for further investigation.

Kolar Superintendent of Police Kolar Narayan said Ravi’s son-in-law Mani complained to him that his daughter was not ready to accept their wedding. “He also requested Ravi to counsel his daughter. Ravi them brought her back home on May 21 and he hit his daugher on the head with a wooden stick. When she collapsed, he burnt her body using grass and wood. He then lodged a missing person’s complaint. The skull, bones, soil have been sent to FSL in Hyderbad for DNA tests. Based on the report, further action will be taken”, the SP said.
