MANGALURU: The district administration of the Dakshin Kannada District of Karnataka has declared a holiday for all the agnanwadis, schools and pre-university colleges (up to 12th grade) on August 1 amid the possibility of heavy to very heavy rainfall (Orange Alert) by the India Meteorological Department (IMD) in that district.
The Deputy Commissioner of the district, Mullai Muhilan, on Wednesday also warned the fishermen not to venture into the sea for fishing tomorrow and further advised the public to avoid low-lying areas and to take necessary precautions to ensure safety from the rain. Residents were also urged to stay indoors and follow the official instructions to minimise any risks.
“The district administration is also on high alert, with emergency services and relief teams ready to respond to any situation,” Muhilan said.
On Tuesday, the district administration had already declared a holiday for July 31 for all anganawadi, schools, and pre-university colleges in light of the red alert for rain issued by the IMD.On the rainfall warning for Karanataka, Director of IMD Bengaluru, CS Patil, said that an orange alert has been issued in Dakshin Kannada districts on August 1 and 2, with widespread rainfall in the next five days in Coastal Karnataka.”
