History-sheeter shot at during escape bid; 3 policemen also injured

UDUPI: A notorious history-sheeter belonging to the Garuda gang, was shot at when he tried to escape from the police after he was arrested from Channarayapatna in Hassan district and was being brought to Udupi. The accused Ishaq is currently undergoing treatment at the KMC Hospital in Manipal.

Ishaq was arrested in connection with gang wars, peddling ganja, dacoity, and serial accident. While he was being brought from Channarayapatna, he tried to escape into an arecanut farm near Neere Byloor when Police Inspector Devaraj warned him and shot him in the leg. Three policemen were also injured in the attack.

The police have also arrested three others along with Ishaq in connection with dacoity cases and they are being questioned. The Garud gang had started off as bouncers and later got involved in illegal activities.

“The Nelamangala police had arrived last week in a private vehicle to arrest Ishaq, but he drove away after crashing into the police vehicle. A case had been registered in this regard at the Manipal police station. Ishaq and three others were arrested from Channarayapatna and on the way back, he asked to stop the vehicle saying he was feeling pukish. He then assaulted police personnel and escaped when the police inspector shot at him after firing warning shots”, Police Superintendent Dr Arun K said.
