MANGALURU: A notorious rowdy was hacked to death by a rival gang on a flyover in Ullal on the outskirts of Mangaluru early on Friday morning.

Arif, also known as Tablet Arif, was a 46-year-old rowdy with a history of violence and had been involved in several cases, including those related to the Mangaluru fishing harbour. He had a history sheet opened against him at the Bandar police station. The police believe that the murder was a revenge killing, and the investigation is under way.

According to eyewitnesses, Arif was riding his bike when a car rammed into him from behind on the flyover. The attackers, who were in the car, got out and hacked Arif with swords, killing him on the spot. The attackers then fled the scene in the car.

The police have recovered the car used by the attackers from near Budoli in Bantwal, and it has been taken into custody. The police are tracking the suspects and are hopeful of making arrests soon.

The incident has sent shockwaves in the coastal region, which had been relatively peaceful for the past year, thanks to the efforts of the police commissioner, Sudhir Kumar Reddy. The police are determined to bring the perpetrators to justice and restore peace to the region.

The murder has raised concerns about the resurgence of gang violence in the area, and the police are working to prevent further incidents. The investigation is ongoing, and the police are urging anyone with information to come forward and assist with the inquiry.
