BENGALURU: The cases of electrocution are increasing in the city as there are thousands of buildings across the city built in violation of the electricity grid code.
A reality check by Public TV revealed several deviations from regulations. Houses are built close to high-tension lines and even schools, like one in Bytarayanapura, are very close to electricity poles.
Recently, two children were hospitalised after being electrocuted in Mahalakshmi Layout. Three days later, one of the boys, Suprith, died early on Sunday without responding to treatment. In this area, houses that were only limited to the ground floor, have gradually increased to two or three floors. In this case, Bescom should have taken precautionary measures to ensure the safety of people.
Yelahanka is another locality where such danger lurks as high-tension lines run right above buildings. In Byatarayanapura area, large layouts are coming up right below high-tension lines.
Gangadhar, a resident of Byatarayanapura said, “Installing high-tension lines, mainly in residential areas, is wrong. Huge buildings and commercial complexes have been built close the high-tension lines. I do not how KPTCL has given permission to those building owners”.
He claimed that, “BBMP officials and builders are involved in corruption and in issuing permission to multiple constructions in residential areas. The builders have constructed buildings illegally. If we given an appeal to the authorities concerned, the letter will be dumped in the dustbin. If Bescom does not solve the problem now, this will become a huge problem in the coming days. Bescom should wake up and work on safeguarding public life”, he noted.
Citizens are demanding that KPTCL should take precautionary measures to safeguard people’s lives.
