GADAG: A lineman with Hubli Electricity Supply Company Limited (Hescom) risked his life to turn off power connection to a transformer which was coming under flood water near Konnur village in Naragund taluk on Wednesday.
The flood water was slowly rising to the transformer’s level. To prevent any accidents, Hescom officials had instructed the lineman to turned off power supply to the transformer.
Manjunath Chandannavar, a lineman with the Naragund sub-division, swam in the flooded water to cut power supply to the transformer and swam back to safety.
Heavy rain and floods caused by the overflowing Malaprabha river have disrupted normal life in the district, leading to breakdowns in power supply. The Hescom is taking various measures to prevent any electrical accidents.
