Herd of 22 elephants moving through Marikatte forest captured by drone camera

The herd was seen moving through the Marikatte forest in Chikkamagalur.

CHIKKAMAGALUR: A video of a huge herd of 22elephants moving through the Marikatte forest in the taluk was captured by a drone camera on Thursday evening. The herd, led by an elephant nicknamed Beetamma, has been moving around several parts of the district over the last 20 days.

The drone video also shows and she elephant trying to teach her four-day-old calf how to walk. The mother can be seen prodding the calf forward in the video as they make their way ahead along with the rest of the herd.

The herd has been spotted near Aldur, Tudukur and Vastare where it has caused immense damage to crops and property. The Forest Department is yet to take any action to prevent damage to human habitations.
