MADIKERI: A health officer, who was on her way to check on the health of a pregnant woman, was brutally attacked by a pet dog at Parane village in the taluk.
Bhavya, the community health officer at Parane, had visited the house of a pregnant woman along with an Asha worker and was returning when a Rottweiler belonging to one Muthanna of the village attacked her viciously on the left arm, leaving her bleeding with many injuries.
The health officer was immediately rushed to Napoklu for preliminary treatment and later shifted to the Madikeri district hospital where she is recovering, doctors said.
In another incident at Kakkabbe village near Napoklu, a man was attacked by a tusker, leaving him with a broken leg.
Anu Subbaiah (50) was walking back home around 6 pm on Wednesday when he was attacked by an elephant near the Padi Igguthappa temple in the village. On receiving information, gram panchayat president Sampan Aiyappa and Lav Chinnappa shifted Subbaiah in a car to the Madikeri district hospital.
With the increasing number of attacks by wild elephants, the villagers are anxious and have blamed the Forest Department for negligence.
