Health minister Dinesh Gundurao meets families of nursing mothers who died at BIMS

BALLARI: Following the string of deaths of nursing mothers at the Ballari Institute of Medical Sciences (BIMS) Hospital, Health Minister Dinesh Gundurao the family of the latest victim, Sumaiya, at Azad Nagar in Kudligi of Vijayanagar district.

The minister also met the families of Nandini and Lalitha at Banapura and Basarkod villages after visiting the BIMS hospital where he inspected the medical supplies room and the maternity ward.

Speaking after meeting the family of Sumaiya, Dinesh Gundurao said, “Sumaiya was recovering, but unfortunately, she passed away. I have come here to offer assistance to the familly and we will help them in whatever way possible. I will discuss with the CM regarding compensation to the families”.

“There had been no cases of such deaths so far, but a team of officials will investigate and we will rectify the problems. We are conducting checks at other hospitals too. This year, 327 nursing mothers have died and I have directed officials to probe all the deaths”, he said.

The minister also presented a cheque of Rs 50,000 to Sumaiya’s family which was given personally from MLA Dr N T Srinivas. He also met the son of Mahalakshmi, along with the family, at the Kudligi travellers’ bungalow.
