Health department plans to implement Covid-19 norms in stadium during IPL matches

BENGALURU: With spectators gathering in huge numbers to watch the Indian Premier League matches amid a rise in Covid-19 cases, the Health Department has planned to implement separate Covid-19 rules at the M Chinnaswamy Stadium for crowd control and to prevent the spread of the disease.

Currently, there is an uptick in the number of Covid cases in the state. On the other hand, the excitement of the election and IPL is on in full swing. On Sunday, more than 35,000 people watched the match between RCB and Mumbai Indians at the Chinnaswamy Stadium, and no Covid-19 rules were followed. To prevent a rise in cases, the Health Department has planned to implement Covid-19 norms.

Last year, some rules were implemented in the stadium due to Covid-19 after the number of cases began to fall. At present, more than 3,000 cases are registered in the country every day and the state technical advisory committee (TAC) has planned to enforce rules targeting stadiums.

“Covid-19 cases are increasing in the state. The cases will increase if people do not maintain social distance in crowded places like stadiums and other places. People should follow Covid-19 norms to avoid an increase in the number of cases”, said Randeep D, Commissioner of Health and Family Welfare Services, Arogya Soudha.
