BELAGAVI: Two days after a woman died due to consumption of contaminated water from a well in Kanasageri village of Gokak taluk, the health authorities have taken up an awareness drive using public address systems and beating of drums.

The authorities are advising the villagers to drink only boiled and cooled water, wash hands regularly, maintain cleanliness around their houses, not to eat stale food or overripe fruits and to approach the nearest medical facility in case of vomiting and diarrhoea.

The DHO visited the village on Monday.

On Sunday evening, about 10 people complained of vomiting and diarrhoea after drinking water from a well in the village. One woman, Holevva Balappa Dhanadavar (38) had died while being shifted to hospital.

After Congress leader Mahantesh Kadadi alleged that three people had died in the village, District Health Officer Dr Mahesh Koni and a team of doctors visited the village on Monday. They also inspected the arrangements for water supply in the village.
