Headmistress of Morarji school suspended, guest teachers sacked after 4 students drown in Murudeshwar

The Kolar DC, SP and other officials paid their last respects to the drowning victims.

KOLAR: The bodies of the four girl students of the Morarji Desai residential school at Kothur in Mulbagal taluk, who died after drowning off the Murudeshwar beach, were brought to the district headquarters on Thursday.

The district administration, including Deputy Commisioner Akram Pasha, Police Superintendent Nikhil B, Assistant DC Mangala, Assistant commissioner Mythri, Karnataka Residential Educational Institutions Society (KRIES) Kantharaju paid their last respects.

The bodies were later sent to the respective villages in separate ambulances. Later, DC Akram Pasha and a team of officials visited the families of the drowning victims and offered condolences. The DC also handed over cheques of Rs 5 lakh each to the families as relief.

The victims Vandana hailed from Doddaguttihalli while Deeksha hailed from N Gaddur. Shravanthi hailed from Poojarahalli and Lavanya from Hebbanni.

Later, DC Akram Pasha said the district administration had made arrangements for the last rites of all the four victims. “The headmistress Shashikala has been suspended while the other guest teachers have been removed from service. As of now, none of the teachers have been arrested”.
