KOPPAL: In a major relief for the state government, the Dharwad bench of the Karnataka High Court has dismissed a Rs 3,000 crore compensation claim filed by BV Reddy construction company which was awarded a contract to build a bridge near Talawara Ghat in Gangavati taluk of Koppal district.
The bridge collapsed in 2009, resulting in loss of life and property. The company had approached various courts, including the Gangavati court, the Ballari Commercial court, and Koppal district court, seeking compensation for losses.
The district court had ordered the state government to pay Rs 3,000 crore to the company, prompting the Public Works Department (PWD) to approach the High Court. After 16 years of litigation, the High Court has dismissed the claim, bringing relief to the state government.
