The bride refused to get married when the groom was about the tie the mangalasutra.

HASSAN: A bride called off her marriage just when the groom was about to tie the mangalasutra, leaving her parents distraught and the guests shocked, at the Adichunchanagiri Kalyana Mantap on MG Road here on Friday.

The bride had participated in all the ceremonies earlier.

Pallavi of Buvanahalli and Venugopal G, a teacher at a government school at Eshwarahalli Kudige and resident of Alur village, had got engaged three months ago and even had a photoshoot. The wedding ceremonies began on Thursday and the dhara muhurta was set for Friday.

Just when the groom was about to tie the mangalasutra around the bride’s neck, she nodded in disapproval. Though her mother tried to convince her, the bride remained unmoved. The groom questioned what was wrong and even broke down.

However, the bride rushed back to her room where her parents tried to convince her. It was then that she revealed that she was in love with someone else and would marry him. Her parents called the police and she was later taken to the police station.

A relative revealed that the bride had received a phone call during the ceremonies after which she had locked herself in a room saying she did not want to get married. When the bride remained adamant, the groom decided that he too was not willing to marry her and left the marriage hall.
