BENGALURU: The prime accused in the daylight robbery case from an ATM cash van near Ashoka Pillar-Jayanagar-Dairy Circle route, Xavier, is said to have been the first to plan the heist.
He had love marriage, but had no job. On one side there were debts and on the other, frequent quarrels with his wife. Xavier had broken his leg in a bike accident and with no work, he stayed at home. But this meant no income to run the household.
Then, he plotted to make a lot of money in a short time. He got in touch with the agency he had earlier worked for, and from there another accused, Ravi, later teamed up with Constable Annappa Naik. Together, they spent about three months planning the robbery, preliminary investigation has revealed.
Xavier, who was well aware of the weaknesses of CMS Info Systems, then discussed the issue with Ravi, who was also trapped in debt. Thereafter, Xavier met Annappa Naik and told him about the plan. At that time, Annappa said he would provide whatever police‑related support they needed.
Initially Annappa, Ravi and Xavier were involved. Later, Ravi’s brother Rakesh, Nandish, Gopi and other suspects were also brought in to execute the plan. Then, Annappa rented an Innova car, which was driven by Rakesh. Rakesh, who knew the roads well, drove while avoiding tolls and checkpoints. They planned that if they successfully committed the robbery, they would hit the jackpot, but all the accused ended up in jail.
