MYSURU: The famous Dasara procession, known as the Jamboo Savari, got off to a start with Chief Minister Siddaramaiah offering flowers to an idol Goddess Chamundeshwari placed in the golden howdah which was carried by lead elephant Abhimanyu at the Mysuru palace premises. The CM was accompanied by other ministers, Yaduveer Krishnadatta Chamaraja Wadiyar of the Mysuru royal family and district officials.
The Jamboo Savari marks the conclusion of the 10-day Dasara festivities. Seating arrangements at the Amba Vilas Palace grounds had been made for 48,000 spectators, including dignitaries and the general public. The golden howdah was decorated with flowers, including jasmine, roses, and marigolds, by a team led by Manjunath, who has been doing this work for 27 years.
In the afternoon, Chief Minister Siddaramaiah performed puja to the Nandi Dhwaja at the Balarama Gate of the Mysuru palace. Yaduveer Krishnadatta Chamaraja Wadiyar, performed the Shami Puja at the Kalyana Mantapa in the palace. He also participated in the Vijay Yatra procession.
Abhimanyu, the howdah elephant, was accompanied by other elephants, including a kumki elephant Kaveri. He has been a part of the Dasara procession since 1995 and has been carrying the ambari for the past five years. Abhimanyu is known for his calm and gentle nature, making him an ideal choice for carrying the Goddess Chamundeshwari idol.
The procession featured 58 tableaux showcasing art, literature, culture, and traditions of 31 districts of Karnataka. Folk art performances by cultural troupes were also part of the procession. A torchlight parade and drone show will take place at the Bannimantapa grounds in the evening.
The Mysore Dasara celebrations are a grand affair, showcasing the rich cultural heritage and traditions of Karnataka. The Jamboo Savori procession is a major attraction, and people from all over the state and beyond come to witness this spectacle.
