YADGIR: A gram panchayat member, who is also a history-sheeter, was on Saturday arrested for firing a gun in the air during a wedding procession at Siddapura village in Gurmitkal taluk on Friday. The incident caused panic among the villagers, especially children.
Chandrashekhar, who was dancing with a gun in his hand, fired in the air during a wedding ceremony. Yadgir SP Prithvik Shankar said the gun belonged to a villager from Mailapura. The police are investigating whether the gun is licenced and will take action accordingly. If the gun was licenced, it will be cancelled, the SP said.
The Gurmitkal police took action after a news report was aired on Public TV. The police have taken Chandrashekhar into custody and are questioning him. The gun used in the incident has been seized, and further action will be taken based on the investigation.
